"Research shows that the more adversity children encounter, the higher is their risk for later consequences...Resilience is 'the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress' (American Psychological Association, 2012). Studies show that resilience is influenced by a number of factors, including characteristics of a child (e.g., skills, temperament, motivation) and their surroundings. Safe, inclusive, and nurturing environments strengthen resilience in traumatized children, whereas hostile and unresponsive environments add stress and may further traumatize those who are already vulnerable." --Trauma-Informed Programs and Practices for Schools (TIPPS) Program Guide
What are some steps your team is intentionally taking to ensure your spaces are safe, inclusive, and nurturing?
